I decided on a whim to open a brick-and-mortar store with this brilliant idea that I would make everything in it. In my head, this was the best idea ever! Instead of being in my pjs in my studio all day talking to myself, I would get dressed and wear makeup, talk to women and sell my crap while making money. What the hell was I thinking??? I signed a one-year lease and two weeks later, I moved into the store. I originally called it Artsy Fartsy. It seemed the town was not thrilled with my creative suggestion and a day before I opened, I changed it to Funny Girl. All I can say, as an artist....not one of my best decisions and I am immersed in stupid decisions on a daily basis these days.
FYI...The question I get all the time is, "I thought your store/house/studio would be bright and colorful like your work." Here's the thing...My head is sooooo clustered with useless information, minutia and "The-Itty-Bitty-Shitty Committee" that the noise in my noggin is so loud I need my outside world to be very quiet. So why did I create the dolly mamas to be so bright and colorful? Got me...When I drew the first dolly mamas, I used my daughter’s markers; the choices were slim.. I guess that when I finally found grown-up markers, I had a style that made me happy..it's all about balance!
