A couple of months ago, I was contacted by Shahar at Curious Mondo about being part of the 2020 Fiber Arts & Textile Symposium. I ignored it...I was very busy falling apart over how I was going to survive through the pandemic. You see, I am what you would call an introverted extravert. I love being with people; they fill my soul until they annoy me. Then I need to go back to my cave. COVID-19 had taken away the only me I knew, along with my gym and my hairdresser. I went into a deep, dark hole right into China...(seemed appropriate considering.)
I hit a whole new bottom I didn't even know existed....and then...I saw a second message from Shahar, (who I will now be calling my Brazilian Fairy Godmother). She asked (again) if I would like to be part of the symposium teaching how to make a dolly mama pillow. (FYI, she originally found me a couple of years ago in a magazine article I wrote on how to create an affirmation pillow.) My first reaction was "Hell no, I don't have time to do this." Kind of funny since all I had was time. My second reaction was "I don't remember how I made this stupid pillow". (As you can see, I was in a really good place.) I took this annoying opportunity as a sign that it was time to take a shower, get a box of hair dye, get dressed and do something other than sitting on the couch in my pjs crying and watching Netflix.
Curious Mondo gave me tidbits of information on what to do and what not to do while filming myself. It seems the Universe had a sense of humor and other plans for me. The goal was to introduce myself to the viewers. Check. Then it went all downhill. The dog wouldn't stop barking, the sun kept moving the light and aging me by the minute and the lawn guy, who I can NEVER get to show up on time decide to show up the day I was filming.
The second and most important thing they told me was to face the camera phone down so the viewers could see my hands creating. Check. Eight hours later, I was finished.
PS…There is a slight chance that half the instructional video is a shot of my cleavage.
